This may be my last year to be able to hunt Pike County, but I have some tremendous memories of some beautiful whitetail bucks, some breathtaking county side and some great people.

I would like to give a special thanks to Irvin Dean and Betty Franklin for their hospitality and friendship during my hunting trips to Pike County.

Franklin Stone House built 1895

This is a beautiful stone house built on Irvin Dean and Betty Franklin’s property in Pike County Illinois.  Mr. Franklin’s great granddad and his brother (Irvin Dean’s great uncle) came here from England and worked as stone masons.  The Franklin brothers were 19 and 21 when they arrived in the US.  They were accomplished stone masons and worked on the light house at Niagara Falls and also did much of the stone work on the Pittsfield courthouse.  The courthouse was finished in 1894.

Farmer's Ridge Church of Christ

This is the Farmer's Ridge Church of Christ and was built in 1893.  It is one of the three oldest continously attended churches in Illinois.

It is one room and has separate out houses for men and women.

Even though the congregation is small, they are still very active in spreading the Gospel.

On of BJ's rentals

BJ's has purchased several homes in the Pleasant Hill area and rents them out to locals, by the month and hunters by the day.

Down town Pleasant Hill

This is a shot of down town Pleasant Hill, looks a lot like Mayberry to me and the people are frendly like Mayberry.

Pam's Diner has good hamburgers and good conversation with locals and hunters from all over the country.
